The EPLA Girls will offer programs for three age groups during the 2012 Summer Lacrosse season. We expect to have two teams of 7/8th grade Girls and two teams of 5/6th grade Girls competing in the competitive MSSLax Summer Lacrosse League. We are also offering one team for 3/4th grade Girls also in the MSSLax Summer leagues! Practices will begin in mid-May and the league games will begin in early June. We anticipate between 8-10 games, culminating with a end of season tournament in Blaine at the National Sports Center in late July. All players must have a current US Lacrosse Membership (uslacrosse.org) and all players are required to give two deposit checks of $15.00 & $100.00 made out to the EPLA covering the uniform kit (game jersey & kilt and practice jersey). These will be returned or destroyed after uniforms returned. If your daughter is currently playing Spring Lacrosse and plans to play in Summer, no additional deposit is required since we have that already.
Practices & Games will be held at Nesbitt Park Preserve in Eden Prairie and practices and games will be held Monday -Thursday with a optional Saturday practice for all teams. As this is a Association made up of volunteers, we are asking for Parents to step up and volunteer for positions within the EPLA and assist with Coaching and Managerial roles. These parents who assist us will get a reduced fee for their child's registration.
Duties of the Parents who assist the coaches will be: Checking on US Lacrosse Membership, Assist in running practices and preparing the field for play; unlocking goals & knack box and moving goals onto fields and setting up cones and placing the portable fence at the east end of field and removing all after games.. Also covering for the coach when conflicts arise. (We will have three coaches between two teams for 5/6 & 7/8th)
Duties for Managers include: Uniform distribution and collection, Sending emails to the team alerting game or practice changes, setting up volunteer positions for games (scorekeeper, time keeper, tournament needs). We also feel strongly that when we have younger high school coaches coaching, that a parent remain near the field during a practice, allowing an adult to be onsite. The Manager can coordinate this also.
For all girls who also play on the MN Elite teams within the 5/6th or 7/8th age group, the EPLA has tried to schedule the practices not to interfere with the MN Elite schedule for those age groups. This is only for practices, we do not have the control over games, we give them our home games dates, but they make that schedule.
Thank you for allowing your daughters to play with our EPLA Association, our sport is Lacrosse, our goal is FUN!
